Poustinia Land Art, previously a cattle ranch, is harboured within an area of 100 acres of secondary rainforest riddled with a network of trails meandering through the property where hikers can experience an Art exhibit in the wilderness, Archaeology, trails with religious motifs or simply, watch birds and the flora.

The Manager of Andrew Zimmern’s Bizarre World show, from the Travel Channel, contacted Poustinia Land Art to
express their interest in featuring us in one of their programmes in Belize. They requested that Poustinia
organize the production of an art piece in which Andrew Zimmern would participate during the filming. The piece chosen depicts the invasion of our minds, especially of our children’s, by television.

A concrete statue by Vilma Romero wrapped in chains, reminisce of the period when slaves, especially when women
and children were made to weave cotton in spindle wheels during the colonial period. It is
also an allegory of the enslavement of women.

The Watcher (1999)

The sculpture of a face on the bark of an old Sapodilla tree. Two trails that lead from the sculpture to the main trail were cut by the
artist. Visitors might pass without noticing the
piece yet the watcher of the forest sees them.
The piece is based on the Guyanese mythology.

As you wonder around the pathways of Poustinia, at the very end when most people presume to be dehydrated, a different path can be seen leading

Granite Boulder found during the construction of the Chalillo Dam by Mr Oscar Gonzales, who donated it to Poustinia Land Art. The painting of the hatching eye was
commissioned by Poustinia Land Art to the artist.

Bubble Wrap (1999 - 2001) Artist: David Stewart
Carved circles on the surface of a limestone boulder over which water runs during heavy rains. The circles representing bubbles were carved following the contours of the boulder.

Conquistadores (1997) Artist: Adrian Barron (England)
A combed morion/ Spanish helmet and two 16th century armoured waist originally planted in a Gombo Limbo tree. The conquistadors of Barron trek in a land where the spirits of the Mayas still linger. Most unfortunately for Poustinia Land Art Park, the pieces were stolen by copper robbers, so the original copper sculptures were replaced with galvanised ones. This was done due to the rich content of the art piece.
Tower (1997) Artist: Kjetil Berge (Norway)
Tower built of pre-cast concrete blocks with recycled colourful plastic items embedded in the concrete blocks. The plastic items have faded and are disintegrating giving the once brightly coloured tower a faded and skeletal aspect. Height: 12 feet diameter: 6 feet. This sculpture was previously done in London, Lisbon and Oslo, but due to limited space the towers was dismantled immediately after the exhibitions.
